CURRENT S&T / RESEARCH

Supports Science and Technology with the development, validation and standardization of biological test methods for the toxicological assessment of pollutants in soil

• Risk assessment of new (microbial, products of biotechnology) substances on Canada’s Domestic Substance List by investigating the pathogenic and toxic potential of these substances to terrestrial organisms in soil
• Developing standardized toxicity test methods for Canadian boreal forested regions using ecologically-relevant terrestrial organisms
• Toxic assessments of weathered petroleum hydrocarbon and brine-impacted soils to terrestrial organisms
• Evaluating the bioaccumulation of metals and organic substances in earthworms, and petroleum hydrocarbons in soil mites
