Excellence in Science Award, Health Canada Science Forum (2008); Earth Sciences Sector Merit Award, Natural Resources Canada (2002); Innovative Science Award Office of the Chief Scientist (2002).
In 2002 Dr. Rasmussen was awarded $100,000 by the Department of National Defence to design and build a Gravimetric Analysis Facility for the accurate measurement of airborne particulate matter collected using personal and environmental samplers. This facility is now fully operational, and Dr. Rasmussen and her colleagues received a patent and trademark for their invention.
Pat E. Rasmussen, PhD
CURRENT S&T / RESEARCH
As a research scientist with Health Canada, Dr. Rasmussen is the Leader of the Metals and Airborne PM Laboratory in the Exposure and Biomonitoring Division, Environmental Health Science and Research Bureau.
- Dr. Rasmussen conducts research in the field of environmental geochemistry and health, specifically field and analytical protocols for measuring human exposures to metals in urban air, particulate matter, and household dust.
- Principal Investigator of "Canadian House Dust Study"; a nation-wide investigation into the chemical make-up of urban settled dust in residential environments. Principal Investigator of research into metal bioaccessibility and speciation in household dust and airborne particles, and refining methods for characterizing nanoparticles, funded by Chemicals Management Plan.
- Co-investigator in Canadian Study of the Impact of Residential Sources of Lead on Blood Lead Levels of Young Children; Principal Investigator: Dr. Patrick Levallois, Institut national de santé publique du Québec.
- Principal Investigator of "Refined Analysis and Characterization Methods for Metals in Urban Residential Air", MITHE Strategic Network [www.mithe-sn.org] directed by Dr. Bev Hale, University of Guelph
