In 2002 Dr. Rasmussen was awarded $100,000 by the Department of National Defence to design and build a Gravimetric Analysis Facility for the accurate measurement of airborne particulate matter collected using personal and environmental samplers. This facility is now fully operational, and Dr. Rasmussen and her colleagues received a patent and trademark for their invention.

As a research scientist with Health Canada, Dr. Rasmussen is the Leader of the Metals and Airborne PM Laboratory in the Exposure and Biomonitoring Division, Environmental Health Science and Research Bureau.
