Lynn MenardTeam Lead, Maternal and Child Health

Public Health Agency of Canada

Lynn Menard works with the maternal and child health team at the Public Health Agency of Canada in Ottawa, Ontario. She is currently working alongside numerous external maternal and newborn health experts to revise the Family-Centred Maternity and Newborn Care (FCMNC) National Guidelines.

Prior to joining the federal government, Lynn worked as a labour and delivery nurse. It was this experience that motivated Lynn to spend her career improving maternal and child health in Canada. This has made working on the FCMNC National Guidelines a great fit for her. The guidelines aim to enhance, standardize and inform maternal and newborn health care practices across Canada. They present the latest information and advice from Canadian experts. The goal is to improve the health of children, women and families — from preconception to postpartum, and throughout their lives.

The first updated chapters of the guidelines were released in December 2017. “I’m proud of the tremendous amount of work and dedication that was invested into the release of these guidelines,” Lynn told us. “My work on this initiative from the federal level brings me closer to my initial roots in obstetrics nursing. I can feel the direct and positive impact our collaborative work on the guidelines has on the care and experience women and families have during pregnancy, labour, birth, and postpartum.”
