Welcome to the Oceans Research in Canada Alliance community platform for facilitating collaboration and communication. This series of short training videos are intended to provide users with a brief introduction to the various applications of the community platform, and to demonstrate some common functions. Open your web browser and navigate to the ORCA SharePoint platform to follow along.
This is Training Session 2: Making Connections. If you would like to connect with other members of ORCA, there are several applications that can help you do that.
In the left navigation bar, click on “Organizations” to view all of the organizations represented in ORCA. Browse for your own organization by scrolling through the alphabetical list, or by using the “Find an item” search box for this list. Click on the organization’s web links to navigate away from the ORCA platform to the home page of the organization. Click your browser’s back button to return to the ORCA platform. Click “home”.
Community of Practice Contacts
From the home page, click on the “Contacts – CoP” link in the navigation bar on the left. This is the list of all members of the ORCA Community of Practice. Find your name in the list by scrolling or by entering it in the “Find an Item” search box. Click on your last name. Your name and email address are there. In the top left corner, click on “Edit item”. Add additional information, such as your job title and your organization. Your organization will be available from a dropdown menu. The organizations are pre-populated from the master list of organizations. If you would like to be the primary contact when community members are seeking to engage with your organization, be sure to tick the “primary contact” box. You can also add additional organizations that you are affiliated with to your profile. When you are finished editing, click “save” in the top right corner. You can see that the changes have been made.
Find others that you might like to connect with in the list by browsing or by using the same search function.
In the left navigation bar, click on “Contacts - Council” to see the ORCA Council members and their contact information.
This concludes the “Making Connections” portion of the ORCA Community Platform training. The third mini-training session is about how our community calendar can help you engage on Ocean Science and Technology.
