The TerraCanada hub will bring together federal science and academia to advance the sustainable development of Canada’s land and natural resources, including critical minerals, to strengthen Canada’s resilience, sovereignty, and green economy through collaborative research and innovation.
Science priorities
- Unlock the economic potential of Canada’s land and resources in a sustainable manner
- Support Canada’s transformation to a low-carbon economy and help fuel trade in vital sectors
- Generate and share knowledge to reduce the risks of natural and human-made hazards, protecting the health and safety of Canadians
Scientific facilities
- Hamilton, Ontario – NRCan’s CanmetMATERIALS facility promotes accelerated materials discovery, steel and metals research, and clean energy solutions.
- Mississauga, Ontario – NRC’s Advanced materials research facility supports the collaborative deployment of materials acceleration platforms, a novel approach to developing and scaling clean energy and smart materials, helping to ensure Canada meets its emission reduction targets and grows the clean energy and manufacturing sectors.
- Ottawa, Ontario – TerraCanada NCA facility supports scientific advancements for sustainable land and resource development, as well as a low-carbon economy.
- Québec, Quebec – TerraCanada Québec TerraCanada Québec focuses on data and environmental geosciences, in support of sustainable land and resource development, including groundwater.
- Federal partner: NRCan Geological Survey of Canada – Quebec division
- External partner: Quebec’s Institut national de la recherche scientifique
Materials Acceleration Demonstration Ecosystem
The Materials Acceleration Demonstration Ecosystem (MADE) is a joint National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) program dedicated to developing accelerated materials discovery tools (including self-driving labs) for clean energy applications. The goal of the program is to help Canada meet its emission reduction targets and grow its clean energy and manufacturing sectors.
