"Together, Let's Build a Strong Canadian Contribution to the Ocean Decade"

Established in 2016, the Oceans Research in Canada Alliance (ORCA) brings together Canada's ocean science and technology community to share knowledge and work collaboratively to increase our understanding of the oceans and to advance ocean technology and innovation.

The ORCA 2023 meeting will be held June 1-2, 2023 at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John’s, NL, in partnership and on location, with the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS) Congress being held that same week.

Under the theme Together, "Let's Build a Strong Canadian Contribution to the Ocean Decade", ORCA 2023 is an opportunity to showcase the diversity of the Canadian ocean community, providing a platform for sharing information, networking, building on existing collaborations and establishing new partnerships.

ORCA 2023 programming will include a mix of presentations, panels, thematic workshops, information and training sessions, and scientific programming to increase Ocean Decade awareness and to support Canada’s contribution to the Ocean Decade.

Call for Session Proposals

We are inviting session proposals on topics aligned with one or more of the seven Ocean Decade Outcomes: i) A Clean Ocean; ii) A Healthy and Resilient Ocean; iii) A Productive Ocean; iv) A Predicted Ocean; v) A Safe Ocean; vi) An Accessible Ocean; vii) An Inspiring and Engaging Ocean.

Proposals should clearly indicate how the session will enhance cooperation and collaboration among Canadian ocean community members, across disciplines, sectors, and thematic areas, to advance efforts under the Ocean Decade. In addition, proposals should demonstrate how equity, diversity, and inclusion will be considered in your session (e.g. Inclusion of Indigenous perspectives, gender and generational equity, etc.).

Submit your session proposal, using the template provided, to the ORCA Secretariat at ORCA.AROC@dfo-mpo.gc.ca no later than Friday, March 10, 2023 for consideration.
